BOMBANANA! Crashing to Desktop or Black Screen

Crashes to desktop and black screens are two of the most common technical complaints for any newly released PC game, and BOMBANANA! is not expected to be an exception. Since the full game hasn't released yet (September 2, 2026), treat the steps below as solid, generally reliable troubleshooting rather than a confirmed fix for a specific known bug — the picture will get clearer once more crash reports come in from real players after launch, likely on the Steam Community hub.

1. Update your GPU drivers — do this first

Head to your GPU manufacturer's site (Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA depending on your hardware) and install the latest driver for your specific chip rather than relying on whatever Windows Update installed automatically — manufacturer drivers are typically newer and more thoroughly tested against recent game releases. Restart after installing before testing again.

2. Verify integrity of game files

A corrupted texture, shader cache, or executable file can cause crashes that look like a driver problem but aren't. In Steam, right-click BOMBANANA! → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files, and let it replace anything that doesn't match.

3. Close background apps, especially overlays and capture software

Recording software, chat overlays, and RGB/peripheral control apps hook into the graphics pipeline in ways that occasionally cause crashes in specific games, particularly ones running on lower-end or integrated graphics. Close anything running an in-game overlay (Discord overlay, GeForce Experience overlay, etc.) and see if the crashes stop.

4. Check for antivirus interference

5. Advanced: check Windows Event Viewer

If crashes continue after the steps above, Windows Event Viewer can tell you what actually happened at the moment of the crash — useful information to have on hand if you end up reporting the issue. Open Event Viewer, go to Windows Logs → Application, and look for an Error entry timestamped right around when the game crashed. An entry naming a specific driver file (a .dll tied to your GPU vendor) points back to drivers; an entry naming the game's own executable points more toward a game-side issue worth reporting directly.

Reporting a crash

If none of the above resolves it, note your GPU model, driver version, and (if you checked it) the Event Viewer error, then reach out to bombanana@tarkgames.com or check the Steam Community hub to see whether others are hitting the same crash — specific, reproducible reports are far more useful to a developer than "it crashed."
